New Zealand comedy duo Flight of the Conchords are set to tour the United States.

The 2016 tour across North America comes six years after Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie's HBO show quit the airwaves.

In the meantime, Clement has been working on Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Roald Dahl's The BFG, pushing plans for the US tour back a year.

But that's not the only film project Clement has been working on. The Kiwi musician-comedian revealed the duo has been writing a feature film script.

"Who knows if it will ever be made? We've written some notes for some different film ideas," he says in a statement.

"We're not down to the stage where we're going, 'The film is going to be like this.' It could be this, this, this, this, this."

This is the pair's first tour since 2012 – the same year McKenzie won an Oscar for Best Original Song for 'Man or Muppet' from The Muppets film.
