British pop star Florence Welch is "beyond proud of herself" after thrilling Britain's Glastonbury festival with a mesmerising headline set.

The singer's band Florence + The Machine were called up to top the bill at the 11th hour after rockers Foo Fighters were forced to pull out when frontman Dave Grohl broke his leg.

'The Dog Days Are Over' hitmakers were bumped up the running order to headline the first official day of the iconic event in England last month, and Welch overcame a severe bout of nerves to provide one of the highlights of the weekend.

Rocker Noel Gallagher, who is a good friend of the singer, has now revealed she was delighted with her performance, telling NME.com, "She is f**king great... She should have been headlining it in the first place, truth be told. Somebody at Glastonbury said, 'She'll walk off the stage a world star'. It's like, she has got a number one album in England and America. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but that f**king makes you a world star already. She walked on stage a world star...

"She was very, very excited and nervous and I've seen her actually two days ago, since that, and she is beyond proud of herself and so she should be... Good luck to her."
