An American news anchor sick of being asked to "sensationalise and exaggerate" the truth to get ratings has quit his job.

That wouldn't be news in itself, but Jim Walker's new career isn't the second act most ex-journalists have. He's now a gay porn star.

"I loved telling news, I loved breaking news and I loved telling good stories," Walker told the New York Post on Friday. "But I didn't like the continuous bulls**t that management put you through."

So he walked, and after a few years in the wilderness contemplating his future, took on board a suggestion from a friend to do gay porn.

The 44-year-old adopted the screen name Dallas Steele, and now has 11 titles under his belt.

Starting his porn career relatively late in life, he doesn't expect to be doing it forever.

"It's not a career, no one considers it a career," he told the New York Post. "It's a stopover for maybe a few years and then I'll consider my third act in life."

If he does go back to journalism, it won't be in traditional news.

"I would consider doing something in LGBT media or with an LGBT-friendly company doing some kind of work."

He doesn't entirely regret spending two decades in mainstream news however, noting he's probably the only gay porn star who's been twice nominated for an Emmy and has interviewed Hillary Clinton.

"You don't come across many porn guys who can say that."
