Full interview: Mel Gibson on his latest movies, Hacksaw Ridge and Blood Father

Mel Gibson's latest directorial outing, Hacksaw Ridge, received a 10-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival this week.

The biographical war film follows a US Army medic who refused to carry a weapon but saved the lives of more than 75 comrades during World War II.

It's already getting lots of Oscars chatter, but is not Gibson's only project currently gracing the big screen. He also stars in Blood Father, which is now showing in New Zealand cinemas.

The action thriller features Gibson as an ex-convict who must fight to protect his teenage daughter from drug dealers who are trying to kill her.

Gibson sat down with Newshub's Kate Rodger to talk about his latest projects.
