The original cast of Futurama have struck a deal with 20th Century Fox TV, putting an end to speculation the show would continue without them.

According to UK entertainment website Chortle, the show's budget had to be slashed in order to make the move from Fox to cable channel Comedy Central viable.

Futurama creators David X Cohen and Matt Groening released a statement, saying: "We are thrilled to have our incredible cast back. The call has already gone out to the animators to put the mouths back on the characters."

Advertisements had been placed by the network looking for new voice actors.

"While replacing these talented actors will be difficult, the show must go on," Fox said in a statement. "We are confident that we will find terrific new performers to give voice to Matt and David's brilliantly subversive characters."

Protests against the move popped up online, including a number of Facebook groups devoted to 'saving' the show.

Variety reported the original cast were asking for US$75,000 each per episode. It is not known how much the new deal is worth for each of the actors, but it is likely to be a lot less.
