Hit fantasy TV series Game of Thrones is reportedly set to be remade with an Indian cast.

Rani Mahal will be based on the characters featured in the books of George R.R. Martin and the popular TV show, according to the Indian Express.

The publication reports actress Sakshi Tanwar will play Daenerys Targaryen, played in the HBO series by Emilia Clarke, while Lena Headey's character Cersei Lannister will be played by Anita Hassanandani and Kit Harington's Jon Snow will be revived by Parth Samthaan.

Another online report claims Rani Mahal will be set in 1857 and centre on the political machinations of royal women. 'Rani Mahal' is the name of a palace damaged by a British attack during the Indian Rebellion, also know as India's First Great War Of Independence.

The Indian series looks set to focus on female characters, with Sakshi Tanwar taking the role of lead protagonist.
