Korean pop hit 'Gangnam Style' has hit number one in the New Zealand singles chart, becoming the first foreign language song in three decades to do so.

'Gangnam Style', by K-pop star PSY, already has over 265 million views on YouTube and has topped the iTunes chart in 31 countries.

The last foreign language hit to hit the top spot in New Zealand was German band Nena's '99 Luftballoons' in March 1982.

In 1996, Los Del Rio's Spanish-language hit 'Macarena' was held off the top spot by Keith Sweat's 'Twisted'.

New Zealand is the fourth country in which 'Gangnam Style' has gone to the top of the official singles chart, behind Denmark, Finland and South Korea.
