The Troggs are set to spread the love all around New Zealand later this year, announcing a tour that'll take in more than just Auckland.

The band, known for their 1960s garage-rock hits 'Wild Thing', 'With A Girl Like You', and 'Love is All Around', will play six gigs, taking in Wellington, Napier, Tauranga, Hamilton, Auckland and Christchurch.

'Wild Thing' hit number one in New Zealand exactly 50 years ago today, spending two weeks at the top.

"It's so simple anyone can play it and remember the words," says lead guitarist Chris Britton, who's been with the band since the start.

'With A Girl Like You' followed it to the top in October 1966, dethroning the Beatles' 'Eleanor Rigby'.

Lead singer Reg Presley died in 2013, and was replaced by Chris Allen, who has previously sung with the Commitments, the Animals and Wings guitarist Denny Laine's band.

'Love is All Around' became a massive hit in the early 1990s after being recorded by soft-rockers Wet Wet Wet.
