George Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson have become parents.

The 69-year-old Star Wars filmmaker and the DreamWorks Animation chairman tied the knot in June.

The Huffington Post reports that the couple is now proud parents to their biological daughter Everest Hobson Lucas, who was born via surrogate on Friday August 9.

Baby Everest is little sister to George's three adult adopted children, Amanda, 32, Katie, 25, and Jett, 20.

Financial expert Mellody, 44, met George on a business conference in 2006 and the couple began dating long-distance while he lived full-time in California.

Mellody opened up about her romance with George to Oprah Winfrey last year.

"I think it works because we are extraordinarily open-minded people and we're open to what the universe brings us and I think we didn't have preconceived ideas about what a partnership should be and so we allowed ourselves to discover something that was unexpected," she said.

The pair was married at George's Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, California on June 22. Journalist Bill Moyers officiated the nuptial ceremony with director Steven Soderbergh toasting the groom.

This is the second marriage for George and Mellody's first.

George recently sold his Star Wars empire to Disney for an estimated US$4.05 billion. Lucasfilm is now owned by the entertainment giant and director JJ Abrams is already at work on the Star Wars: Episode VII, which will be released in the summer of 2015.
