Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston and Tom Hardy have been tipped to succeed Daniel Craig as the next James Bond for years, but a surprise new contender has thrown her -- yes, her -- hat in the ring.
Gillian Anderson, best-known for her role as Dana Scully on The X-Files, wants to take over the British spy franchise which has been the domain of men for more than half a century.
"It's Bond. Jane Bond," she tweeted to her 455,000 followers.
After four highly successful films as Bond, Craig has reportedly turned down a package worth £68 million (including profit shares and endorsement deals) to sign up for a fifth.
Anderson recently starred in the 10th season of The X-Files after the cult series took a 14-year break.
