Girls stars release powerful sexual assault video

As outrage continues over former Stanford University student Brock Turner's sexual assault on an unconscious woman, the stars of Girls have released a message of solidarity.

The hit HBO show's creator Lena Dunham has dedicated the video to the survivor of Turner's attack, saying she's "given so much to change the conversation".

Dunham features alongside Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet in the video, which calls for society to break the silence around sexual assault and create a culture that encourages women to come forward.

The public service announcement calls on everyone to "support, listen and take action".

"I dedicate this to the brave survivor in the Stanford case who has given so much to change the conversation," Dunham wrote on Twitter with a link to the video.

Last week, the now 23-year-old victim faced Turner in Santa Clara County Supreme Court, reading aloud a powerful, graphic letter detailing her ordeal, which has since been published in full online.

Turner, 20, was convicted of three felonies including sexual assault and sentenced to six months in jail and three years of probation last week, despite facing a maximum sentence of 14 years in state prison.

The now lifetime-registered sex offender is due to be released from jail in September and is planning to appeal his conviction.
