Country music legend Glen Campbell has been forced to cancel his upcoming appearance in New Zealand because of health issues.
Campbell was due to perform alongside fellow country music superstar Kenny Rogers in Christchurch and Auckland next month, but concert promoters Pacific Entertainment and Bluehawk Presents say medical specialists have warned against international travel because of a decline in his Alzheimer’s condition.
Fans in Australia will also miss out on seeing Campbell perform on what were to be the last dates of his farewell tour, aptly named The Goodbye Tour.
The concert promoters say Campbell has apologised for the cancellation and is very disappointed that he is unable to perform in Australia and New Zealand one last time.
Campbell will now be replaced in the support slot for Rogers’ concerts by New Zealand musician John Rowles, who has known Rodgers since the late 1970s.
Rowles also has a connection with Campbell, having released a version of Campbell’s 1974 hit single, Rhinestone Cowboy on one of his own live albums.
Kenny Rogers is performing at the CBS Arena in Christchurch on August 10, and at Auckland’s Vector Arena on August 12.
