In the wake of huge success domestically, TV3 programme Grand Designs New Zealand has been picked up by six different countries across the world.

The show, fronted by Kiwi architecture enthusiast Chris Moller, follows the journeys of people embarking on ambitious or innovative house builds - from design all the way to the finished product.

And the New Zealand version has proven to be a massive hit in Scandinavia, with MTV Sisallot in Finland and Discovery in Norway and Sweden purchasing rights to screen the show.

Wider Europe also showed interest, with Channel Four in the UK and ITI Neovision in Poland also signing the Kiwi adaptation of the much-loved British-founded programme.

Foxtel Lifestyle and ABC in Australia also purchased rights to the show.

Sue Woodfield, Mediaworks Head of Commissioning and External Production, says while the programme's move overseas is seen as a major accomplishment, it doesn't come as a shock.

"Grand Designs NZ has been a real success with Kiwi audiences and it's fantastic it's doing so well around the world," she said.

"But it's hardly surprising really - the series features some incredible and unique homes in our amazingly beautiful country."

The second season of Grand Designs NZ was promoted for the first time on Sunday night, during The Block: Girls vs Boys finale.

The show, which is screened on TV3 with funding from NZ On Air, will make its return to New Zealand televisions in September.
