Rocker Jack White was left ruing his decision to take two backing bands on tour because the trek descended into petty squabbling about which group should perform.
The former White Stripes star hit the road in support of his 2012 debut solo album Blunderbuss, and he decided to experiment by employing two backing bands - one all-female, the other all-male.
White would only decide on the morning of each show which group would be performing that night, but the experimental concerts ended up causing bruised egos, especially among the ladies.
White tells Mojo magazine, "That's where the human nature stuff comes in. Humans are competitive and they would get p**sed off. The girls would come up and say, 'But the boys played 12 dates on the last tour and we only played 10,' and I'd tell them I wasn't keeping score. Someone would say, 'But Jack, my mum and dad are in the audience tonight!' and I'd explain that wasn't why we were on tour.
"And they approached competition in different ways. They guys wanted to score a touchdown, but the girls would take things personally. It was certainly a lot harder to hurt the guys' feelings."
