Moviemaker James Cameron is attempting to cut four Avatar sequel scripts down to three.

The Titanic director thrilled fans when he announced plans to write a series of follow-ups to the 2009 sci-fi epic, and composer James Horner has now revealed that Cameron is trying to condense four screenplays into three films.

Horner, who collaborated with the filmmaker on Titanic, Aliens and Avatar, tells HeyUGuys.com, "Right now Jim has four sequels, script-wise. And he's trying to make it into three. And that is where, I think, his effort is going right now. To keep it to three sequels. Because he's got so much going on, how do you keep it from expanding into a... fifth movie, total. And he'll get that sorted out."

Avatar won three Oscars and became the highest-grossing film ever with worldwide box office takings of almost US$3 billion. The first of the sequels was expected to hit cinemas next year, but it has been delayed until 2017.
