James Rolleston has appeared in court just months after he was seriously injured in a Bay of Plenty car crash.

The 19-year-old Boy star is understood to be charged with dangerous driving after the car he was in smashed into the Otara Bridge near Opotiki on July 26.

His friend Kaleb Maxwell was also injured in the accident.

Rolleston was supported at the Opotiki District Court on Thursday morning by friends and whanau, according to reports.

No plea was entered for Rolleston by his lawyer, who spoke to the registrar and police prosecutor while the actor stayed seated in the public gallery, reports Fairfax.

The Dark Horse and Dead Lands star will next be appearing in court in February.

Last week, Rolleston presented the ACC Supreme Award at the Attitude Awards, which recognises the achievements of Kiwis living with disabilities.
