British pop star Jessie J is unhappy she's never been asked to perform at her homeland's biggest music awards bash, the BRIT Awards.

Jessie has been nominated twice for Best British Female Solo Artist at the BRITs, in 2012 and 2014, but insists she hasn't been asked to join the bill, despite playing live at prestigious US shows such as the Grammy Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).

"It makes me sad," Jessie tells Women's Health magazine. "I've done the Grammys, the VMAs... my profile in America is that I'm kind of celebrated as one of the greatest singers and I love it."

Despite feeling she is unappreciated in her homeland, the 'Price Tag' singer is hopeful she can be remembered among the best female singers of all time, saying, "I wanna be up there with the Celine Dions, the Whitneys, the Beyonces and Arethas.

"I go hard because I hope and pray that one day, people look back and go, 'She could really f**king sing, you know'. Which is why I keep going."

At this year's BRIT Awards, Jessie has the opportunity to bag a gong for the first time since 2011, when she took the Critics' Choice trophy. She has been nominated in the Best British Video category at the ceremony, which takes place in London on February 24 and will reportedly feature performances from stars including Adele and Justin Bieber.
