Jurassic World screenwriter signs on for King Kong

The screenwriter behind the summer's big blockbuster hit Jurassic World,  which has become the third highest-grossing movie of all time, has signed on for another monster movie - he'll bring King Kong back to the big screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Derek Connolly, who co-wrote Jurassic World with director Colin Trevorrow, has been recruited to complete the script for Kong: Skull Island to life, a prequel to the story of King Kong.

Marvel star Tom Hiddleston and Short Term 12's Brie Larson will star in the new Kong film, which will start shooting in Hawaii in late October. Other names mentioned are Corey Hawkins, who recently starred as Dr Dre is Straight Outta Compton, Samuel L Jackson and John C Reilly.

Godzilla's Max Borenstein and Nightcrawler's Dan Gilroy are among the screenwriters who have previously reworked the script for the movie.
