Teen pop star Justin Bieber has overtaken Lady Gaga to become the most-followed person on Twitter.

The ‘Baby’ hitmaker now has 33,348,650 followers, compared to the ‘Bad Romance’ singer’s 33,339,687.

Gaga overtook Britney Spears in 2010 to become the most followed person on the social network.

Bieber has yet to thank his Twitter followers for pushing him into the lead.

In addition to releasing two number one albums in the last year, Bieber was also named by Forbes magazine in 2012 as the third-most powerful celebrity in the world. His Twitter following was cited as a reason why marketers need to take notice of the 140-character micro-blogging site.

While Bieber and Gaga hold the top two spots on Twitter, other people in the top 10 most followed accounts include Katy Perry, Barack Obama, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears and Youtube.
