Hundreds of Justin Bieber fans surrounded The Edge radio station in Ponsonby, Auckland to watch the Canadian pop star arrive.

One fan, who had trouble speaking through her tears, said she had travelled for more than three hours to see 'Baby' hitmaker.

"Seeing him like five metres away - it's amazing," said Ella Mitchell.

"We've spent the whole past two days trying to find him."

Bieber is visiting today as part of a tour promoting his latest chart-topping single 'What Do You Mean?' and upcoming album.

The 21-year-old singer will play just one intimate show, with only 120 tickets only available through a radio promotion.

Security is tight for the fleeting visit and details of his performance are on lockdown.

Bieber has arrived from Sydney, where he gave an exclusive concert on Cockatoo Island in the city's harbour.
