Justin Trudeau is Marvel's new comic book hero

Canadian Prime Minister and international sex symbol Justin Trudeau has become the first Canadian leader to grace the cover of a comic book.

Mr Trudeau will appear as a hero version of himself in the upcoming issue five of Marvel's Civil War II: Choosing Sides, which will be released on August 31.

The Canadian Prime Minister is depicted as a boxer in a ring, and sports a uniform embellished with a Maple Leaf. He is sounded by Canadian superhero squad Alpha Flight as well as American superhero Ironman.

Toronto-based cartoonist Ramon Perez created the image.

"I didn't want to do a stuffy cover -- just like a suit and tie -- put his likeness on the cover and call it a day," he told the CBC.

Artist and writer Chip Zdarsky knew he wanted to feature Mr Trudeau after he was commissioned on the Alpha Flight project, but said it was challenging reconciling his real-life appearance with the narrative of the comic.

"It's a little tricky just because once you start to put words in the Prime Minister's mouth, we acknowledge that this is basically Trudeau fan fiction.

"He seems to be the popular culture association with Canada right now, right behind Drake, and I probably couldn't get Drake in the comic."

The story involves a new Marvel character, Ulysses, who has the power to accurately predict the future.
