Kanye West adds disclaimer to gory Monster video

Kanye West has moved to silence criticism of his newly-released ‘Monster’ video by labelling the promo "an art piece" in a disclaimer at the start of the gory footage.

The rapper hit headlines when graphic clips from the unfinished video, featuring Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, and Rick Ross, hit the internet late last year.

The footage featured disturbing scenes of Ross surrounded by seemingly lifeless women hanging from a ceiling by nooses around their necks, and Jay-Z rapping in front of a naked woman lying dead on a sofa. West is also seen being mauled by zombie women, lying in bed with two dead females, and holding a severed head.

The official video has now been released and West has pre-empted criticism of the shocking scenes by posting an introductory note at the beginning of the film, insisting the footage is just "art" and shouldn't be interpreted in a "negative" way.

It reads, "The following content is in no way to be interpreted as misogynistic or negative towards any groups of people. It is an art piece and it shall be taken as such."
