It has been the talking point of many water cooler catch ups for more than ten years but finally overnight confirmation from those who were involved.

Was there enough room on the floating door in the film Titanic for both Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet to fit and survive the famous marine disaster?

There are even blog posts dedicated to theories as to why Rose DeWitt Bukater may have wanted Di Caprio's character, Jack Dawson dead.

TV series Mythbusters even ran an entire episode to work out the exact size of the door and if he could have fit on it.

Speaking on US chat show Jimmy Kimmel Live Winslet confirmed there may have been enough room for Leo on the door after all, saying she hung Leo's character out to dry – or drown, and kept the entire door to herself.

"I agree, I think he could have actually fit on that bit of door,"

The brief but light-hearted exchange is expected to add fuel to conspiracy theorists who are convinced Winslet's character wanted Dawson dead, and that her life after his death may result in a Titanic sequel.

Leonardo DiCaprio couldn't be reached for comment.
