Kendrick Lamar is set to induct his hometown heroes N.W.A. into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April.

The iconic rap group is one of the acts chosen to be part of the prestigious Hall of Fame's Class of 2016, and Lamar, a fellow Compton, California native, will be on hand at the Brooklyn, New York ceremony to honour Dr Dre, Ice Cube and their bandmates in recognition of their outstanding contribution to music.

Lamar, a protege of rapper Dr Dre, has often spoke about the massive influence the group has had on him both personally and professionally, saying in an introductory video for the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton, "When I think of N.W.A, it wasn't even music to me, it was a real lifestyle. Brothas from my neighborhood that made it out."

Steve Miller, Deep Purple, Chicago, and Cheap Trick will also be inducted during the April 8 ceremony at the Barclays Arena, and Kid Rock, Black Keys, Metallica's Lars Ulrich and Matchbox Twenty's Rob Thomas will join Kendrick among those saluting the achievements of this year's honourees.
