Popstar Kimbra has been added to the list of headliners at upcoming New Year's Eve festival Rhythm and Vines 2016.

The Grammy award-winning 'Cameo Lover' hitmaker joins the likes of Chance the Rapper, ZHU and RÜFÜS at the event, which she hasn't played at since 2012.

"We have always strived to be a platform for Kiwi musicians making waves around the world and her star continues to rise internationally," says festival director Hamish Pinkham.

"Her lively soulful pop sound will provide a great balance for the hip-hop and bass heavy music the festival is known for."

Other new announcements for this year's line-up include VNZMA nominees MAALA and Kings along with internationals Maribou State, Culture Shock, Oscar Key Sung and Ocean Alley.

They join previously announced artists including Skream, Heidi, Netsky, Goldlink, Hot Chip, Savage, Dusky, Sachi, the Jordan Luck band and Yoko-Zuna.

Rhythm and Vines 2016 takes place December 29 - January 1 at the Waiohika Estate in Gisborne.

Tickets are on sale now and promoters saying they are "heading towards selling the festival out within the coming weeks".
