New Zealand violinist Amalia Hall delivered a stunning performance over the weekend at a prestigious international classical music competition in Poland.

The 27-year-old, who attended Rangitoto College and the University of Auckland, impressed the judges enough to become one of only 12 violinists to get through to stage three of the 15th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition, in Poznań.

Hall's performance, a 26-minute recital, featured works by Kreisler, Joachim and Ravel.

The competition takes place every five years and is open to musicians up to age 30. It was launched in Warsaw in 1935, 100 years after the birth of its patron Wieniawski.

The competition runs until October 23, the winner of its top prize will receive €30,000 and a gold medal.
