Kiwi fans full of praise for The Hobbit

The first verdict from Kiwi Hobbit fans is clear. Those who showed up to a midnight screening at Auckland’s Sylvia Park last night were unanimous in their praise.

New Zealand crowds got a chance to see Peter Jackson’s handiwork first-hand when the film was released last night and many liked what they saw -though this praise flies in the face of some international critics who have blasted the film’s new 48 frame per second style, which Jackson himself has been forced to defend.

“As an industry we shouldn't really assume that we achieved technical perfection with motion pictures back in 1927. Because the technology hasn't really changed since 1927. So i'm hoping what we can do now with the digital medium and there are ways to make the theatrical experience more spectacular, more immersive and that's what we're trying to do,” he says.

While it remains to be seen whether this latest journey to Middle Earth will sweep awards season or if the new film technique will prove too jarring, Kiwi fans are well and truly on board.
