Kiwi puppeteers plead for Tarantino to attend show

Three New Zealand comedians are hopeful Hollywood's Quentin Tarantino will answer their plea for him to attend their comedy show, where they have recreated his iconic film Pulp Fiction.

Despite performing it all around the world for the past four years, this is the first time they've landed themselves in the same country as the movie's director.

The 40cm tall marionettes bring the cult classic film to life on stage in the half-hour homage to Pulp Fiction.

"We do every scene from the film," says Puppet Fiction puppeteer James Nokise. "No matter how deborturous, no matter how out there, we find a way a way to do it with marionette puppets."

All of the film's characters are immortalised as puppets, each of them hand-made.

They are on stage at the Christchurch Buskers festival every night this week.

The venue seats 100 people but there's one special guest who has yet to RSVP to his invitation.

Font row and centre, there's a seat reserved for Tarantino, if he decides to accept the invitation.

The larger-than-life Hollywood director is in Auckland promoting his latest movie.

"It's a very Kiwi attitude," Nokise says, "'Oh Quentin's here, come on down bro.' So yeah, hopefully he does."

But how would they react if he does turn up?

"I think I'd be fine, I think Jon would have a heart attack," Nokise says.

"I think I might throw up in my mouth a little bit but then then I'd be very polite and grateful to him his work has made me the man I am today," puppeteer Jon Coddington says.

With its ironic mix of humour and violence, non-linear storyline and eclectic dialogue, Tarantino's Pulp Fiction is regarded as one of Hollywood's best and the trio don't want to miss a chance to meet one of the greats.

"This is the closest we've got and we want to get closer, so please Quentin come on down," Coddington says.

There are just three shows left for him to answer their plea.
