Director Lars Von Trier is developing his first English-language TV series.

The Nymphomaniac moviemaker will be shooting The House That Jack Built, his first English-language project for TV and the first to be directed by von Trier since Danish series The Kingdom, which aired in 1994.

Speaking at the Venice Film Festival, producer Louise Vesth says, "I'm happy to announce that the next Lars von Trier project will be a TV series in the English language... He has a really, really good idea, which I cannot tell more about right now. He wants a huge cast, and from what I heard, I'm sure that it will be something that you have never seen before and you will definitely never see it again."

The TV show is said to have a "huge" international cast. While plot details are being kept secret, executive producer Peter Aalbæk Jensen says the series will be "without precedent" and cautions, "You better hold your breath."

Vesth is producing for Zentropa. It's being developed in co-operation with DR executive producer Piv Bernth - DR is the Danish public broadcaster behind shows including Borgen and The Killing.

The TV series will shoot in 2016.
