Laurence Fishburne has obtained a restraining order against a man who allegedly turned up at the actor's Los Angeles home on New Year's Day and demanded he move out of the property.

Anthony Francis claimed he owned the house and suggested the Fishburne family was living there illegally.

Francis, who was released from prison on Christmas Day after serving time for cyber-stalking and making criminal threats, allegedly called police late last month to tell them he was the owner of The Matrix star's home.

He reportedly left a note at the property stating, "You are to leave this house immediately. This means all tenants are to evacuate ASAP."

The restraining order prohibits Francis from coming within 91.4 metres of Fishburne, his wife and daughter, according to TMZ.com.
