Actress Laverne Cox is set to become the first transgender woman to be recreated as a waxwork by Madame Tussauds.

A figure of the Orange is the New Black star will be unveiled at Madame Tussauds in San Francisco, California on June 26 to mark Pride month, a period of celebration for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

Cox says, "When I think about being who I am, a black trans woman from a working class background raised in Mobile, Alabama, this honour feels even more improbable and extraordinary... I hope that this will be a source of inspiration for every one who encounters it to believe that their dreams matter and are possible."

Cox has already made history by becoming the first transgender woman to win a Daytime Emmy Award, be nominated for a Primetime Emmy and to land a cover on Time magazine.
