Kiwi company Les Mills International has been recognised for its success in exporting fitness to the world.

Les Mills' group fitness classes are now taught in more than 14,000 gyms in 80 countries.

The company was recently given the supreme award at the Westpac Central Business Awards in Auckland

Les Mills International CEO Phillip Mills says the success of the gym has only occurred in the past 50 years.

“When I started working in my parents’ gym in Victoria Street in the 60’s cleaning the locker rooms after school, we had maybe less than one percent of the adult population who went to gyms, but now it’s become a very very big social spend,” he told Firstline this morning.

Mr Mills says his gyms aim to make exercise and getting fit fun.
