US officials have filed fraud and theft charges against a man accused of obtaining US$24,000  by convincing investors he was making a film featuring Clint Eastwood.

Matthew McClintock is alleged to have boasted of producing a cowboy documentary which would be narrated by the Dirty Harry star, while also stating it would be aired on US TV network PBS.

According to The New York Post, state prosecutors allege in court papers filed in Helena, Montana on Wednesday that the actor was never contacted to take part and that McClintock used almost every penny of the US$24,232 of funding he obtained to pay his own personal living costs.

It is also claimed that a cancer charity McClintock named as a future recipient of some of the film's royalties does not exist.
