Russell Brand faced angry hecklers who hurled foul-mouthed insults at the star during his appearance at an anti-austerity protest in London on Saturday.

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star was among the celebrities who joined around 70,000 demonstrators on a march through the British capital to oppose spending cuts proposed by Britain's Conservative government.

Brand also appeared on stage in front of the crowds at the event, and now video footage has emerged showing furious protesters hurling insults at the comedian.

One man in the crowd called Brand out for writing a book called Revolution, in which he urged Brits not to cast ballots in the elections, before backtracking and telling UK citizens to vote for the Labour Party ahead of the country's recent election in May, yelling, "You're a turncoat motherf**ker!... Sell us a book on revolution... and then tell us to vote Labour?"

Another protester shouted at the funnyman, "This is a man who thinks the aristocracy has the same f**king problems as us. F**k him. He should not be on a stage here. Ask them how much they paid him! You have no f**king place here!... You're disgusting."
