Rockstar Games’ Max Payne 3 is to be released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on May 15 in North America and May 15 in Europe, the company announced today.

The game was originally slated for a March 2012 release but has been pushed back to "ensure that Max Payne 3 delivers the highest quality," according to Rockstar.

In the game, the tragedies that took Max’ loved ones years ago are wounds that refuse to heal.

No longer a cop, close to washed up and addicted to pain killers, he takes a job in São Paulo, Brazil, protecting the family of wealthy real estate mogul Rodrigo Branco, in an effort to finally escape his troubled past. But as events spiral out of his control, Max Payne finds himself alone on the streets of an unfamiliar city, desperately searching for the truth and fighting for a way out.
Rockstar Games promise the title will feature cutting edge shooting mechanics for precision gunplay, advanced new Bullet Time and Shootdodge effects, full integration of Natural Motion’s Euphoria Character Behaviour system for lifelike movement and a dark and twisted story.

In addition to the single-player campaign, Max Payne 3 will feature a range of multiplayer modes.

The PC version launches after the console releases on May 29, 2012 in North America and June 1, 2012 in Europe.
