Mel Gibson defends Gary Oldman

Mel Gibson has dismissed the outrage surrounding Gary Oldman's comments over his infamous anti-Semitic rant.

The Dark Knight star was forced to apologise to the Jewish community last month after discussing Gibson's famous anti-Semitic rant in an interview with Playboy magazine, in which he claimed the Braveheart star was unfairly ostracised due to "political correctness" and that Hollywood is "run by Jews".

Gibson, who was unaware of the new controversy, has now defended Oldman's remarks, telling Variety, "These things happen. As we all know... I have nothing much to say. The guy was probably just... He's a good guy... He's fantastic. I know him. He's a good dude."

Oldman later attempted to make amends for his tirade, in which he said Gibson "got drunk and said a few things", insisting "We've all said those things."
