With Melbourne Cup on Tuesday across the ditch, a race of another kind took place in Christchurch on Monday afternoon.
A radio segment by More FM's Lana and Jase dubbed the 'Meow-Bourne Cup' had four cats lined up in a race that attracted plenty of attention.
The entrants - Ellie, Muffane Belinda Searle, Leo De-Cat-Prio, and Oscar Puss-storious - took to the starting blocks ahead of the race, but the sprint itself proved a little more challenging.
Leo De-Cat-Prio - labelled "second favourite" by More FM ahead of the contest - was enticed by a Burger King cheeseburger held by its owner at the finish line to claim the win.
The first-placed puss took away packs of cat treats and a bottle of sauvignon blanc for its efforts, alongside a coveted gold cup and the inaugural title of Meow-Bourne cup champion.
