Radio host and media personality Mike Puru has made his first appearance as part of the Newshub presenting team.
Puru joined presenters Mike McRoberts and Melissa Davies to present the weather on Friday night.
He joins the team as a back-up weather presenter with Kanoa Lloyd hosting The Friday Story tonight.
Puru says he's wanted to present for a very long time and is just glad his first appearance is behind him.
"The last time my heart was beating the fast was when Naz has a spaz on The Bachelor, but this is live TV!"
He says presenting the news had been a long term goal and he is honoured to stand in the Newshub studio.
"I've always been interested in the weather, so I now want to harness that and make sure I provide good reports.
"While a bit different from hosting breakfast radio, it's a great challenge and one I'm excited to give a go. I just hope New Zealand won't judge me on the actual forecasts in their area!"
Newshub's head of broadcast news Richard Sutherland says he's thrilled to have someone of Puru's calibre join the team.
"We think his warm and professional approach will be popular with viewers and look forward to seeing him on our set from time to time."
