US singer Prince will perform one show in New Zealand as part of his Piano & A Microphone tour this month.

It will be the first time the pop music legend touches down in the country, and fans were left with little other detail about the tour announced yesterday until now.

Prince will be performing at Auckland's ASB theatre on February 24.

Fans can expect songs from Prince's expansive 39 albums such as 1999 hit 'Purple Rain' and 'Sign o' the Times', as well as "interpretations of well-known hits alongside rarely performed B-sides, and new, ever-before-heard material".

Prince's Piano & A Microphone tour began on January 21 at his US recording studio in Paisley Park, where according to The Rolling Stone, Prince performed on a stage decorated with candles and smoke.

The show was centred on emerging from the shadow of his father, jazz pianist John L. Nelson.

"The set moved chronologically through the first decade of Prince’s career, including at least one song from each of his first 10 albums," Rolling Stone reported.

Fans are already showing their excitement on social media.

Tickets will go on sale for the Auckland show at 12pm on February 11, and purchases will be limited to two tickets per person.

Prince will also be performing two shows in Melbourne and Sydney.
