Morrissey to New Zealand: Adopt 'turbulent pest' Prince Harry

Outspoken rocker Morrissey has launched a savage attack on Britain's Prince Harry, branding the royal "a symbol of stupidity" and a "pest" after he was photographed catching a crocodile.

The 'Suedehead' hitmaker, who is a vocal exponent of animal rights issues, is currently preparing for a series of gigs in Sydney, but he was left furious over an image of the royal taken during an official trip Down Under earlier this month.

The prince was pictured smiling as he sits astride a snared croc on the deck of a boat in Darwin Harbour, but the photo has angered the former The Smiths singer, who insists it clashes with the royal's support for wildlife preservation.

In a statement, he writes, "As I very gratefully arrive in the magnificent city of Sydney, my spirits are almost beaten down by the array of newspapers from New Zealand whose headlines announce HARRY THE HERO, as photographs show... Prince Harry laughing as he sits atop a heavily roped crocodile...

"Respectable people view Harry as a vile and ignoble symbol of stupidity with no possibility of development... any leisurely gaze beyond establishment interests will see a fully-grown man eternally floundering in absolute stupidity, and if New Zealand were so impressed then their absolute adoption of Harry would lift a colossal burden from the modern British spirit.

"Will no one rid us of this turbulent pest? New Zealand, please take him - he's all yours."

The BBC reports the prince had joined rangers in the Northern Territory to remove crocodiles from waterways used for boating and fishing. They are either taken to crocodile farms or killed.
