Bosses at movie streaming website Netflix have defended Adam Sandler after a group of Native American actors walked off the set of his latest comedy, accusing the funnyman of stereotyping and disrespecting them.

Loren Anthony and other cast members of The Ridiculous Six have quit the project over what they claim is offensive matter in Sandler's script.

Anthony tweets, "Today work was no bueno (no good), my native women were disrespected and i walked off set."

Around a dozen Native American actors left the set, saying the script repeatedly insulted native women and elders and grossly misrepresented Apache culture.

The examples of disrespect included Native women’s names such as Beaver’s Breath and No Bra, an actress portraying an Apache woman squatting and urinating while smoking a peace pipe, and feathers inappropriately positioned on a teepee.

But producers at Netflix, who have picked up the movie, are standing firm by their director and star, insisting Anthony and the others have missed the joke.

A spokesman for the company tells TMZ.com, "The movie has ridiculous in the title for a reason - because it is ridiculous... and the cast is not only part of, but in on, the joke."

The movie, a western spoof, also features Nick Nolte, Steve Buscemi and Dan Aykroyd.
