U.S. President Barack Obama is set to head into the Alaskan wilderness to join survival expert Bear Grylls for a special episode of his hit adventure series.
The world leader's appearance on Running Wild with Bear Grylls will be taped to air on America's NBC network later this year, and the TV special will be aimed at drawing attention to the effects of climate change in Alaska.
Obama will become the first U.S. president to receive survival advice from the famed British adventurer, who has pushed celebrities like Kate Hudson, Kate Winslet and Michelle Rodriguez to their limits on the current second season of Running Wild. The latest episodes have featured Winslet eating cooked earthworms and Rodriguez chewing on a mouse cooked in her own urine.
Grylls recently showed his support for Obama's stance on climate change by retweeting a Twitter.com post which read: "As long as I'm president, America will lead the world to meet the threat of climate change."
The news of the TV special emerges on the same day Obama became the first sitting U.S. President to visit the Arctic Circle, where he will officially change the name of North America's highest peak from Mount McKinley to its traditional native name of Denali, meaning "great one", a request state officials in Alaska have been petitioning the federal government for since 1975.
