Moviemaker Oliver Stone has opened up about his drug use in a candid new magazine interview, revealing he no longer takes anti-depressants but has become a big fan of ecstasy and the hallucinogenic juice from rubber tree plants.
The Natural Born Killers and Platoon director has never been shy about his drug use and now, in a new article in The Hollywood Reporter, he lists the hallucinogenics he approves of and the hard drugs he avoids.
Stone says, "I believe the grass (marijuana) is God's gift. California makes the best in the world now... All my life I've been doing it, off and on. I can stop marijuana... I'm not addicted. I enjoy it. I also enjoy alcohol.
"Cocaine, I stay away from, but I believe in LSD, mescaline, mushrooms, ayahuasca.
"You ever heard of ayahuasca? It's a very strong juice that comes from the rubber trees. Ecstasy is great, too."
But there's one more prescription drug the director no longer takes - anti-depressant Prozac.
He explains, "I've taken medication, but it doesn't work for me. I'm not a Prozac person anymore; I've already taken too much of that. I feel you have to confront it (depression) on a spiritual basis."
