One Direction named worst band - again

Harry Styles has laughed off being named the villain of the year at an awards ceremony.

The 19-year-old was given the joke prize at yesterday's NME Awards, beating the likes of Psy and Azealia Banks.

One Direction also picked up the award for worst band for the second year in a row, but Harry was able to put on a brave face.

Harry and bandmates Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson are busy with the Scottish leg of their Take Me Home tour, which seems to be a welcome distraction from the light-hearted criticism.

"Glasgow, thank you for having us! Was a lot of fun tonight.. See you soon .xx," Harry posted on Twitter.

"And thank you to @NME for my award tonight. Gotta take the rough with the smooth eh? (sic)."

Last year's villain of the year gong went to teen icon Justin Bieber, who didn't make the category this year, but did receive a nomination for worst band.

In the lead up to the awards show, Harry made it clear he didn't think he deserved to be named a villain.

"I don't think I've done anything that bad, have I?" he said. "I wouldn't say villain. But I don't know, we'll see."

Taking home some more flattering honours last night were The Rolling Stones and Florence Welch, who were crowned best live band and best solo artist respectively.

Redhead Florence also bagged the best dance floor anthem title for track 'Sweet Nothing', her collaboration with Calvin Harris.

The Killers also had a successful evening, winning the award for best international band, while US President Barack Obama was named hero of the year.
