Poi meets Justin Timberlake in Facebook video hit

A Māori performing arts group has spun up a hit by mixing traditional poi with an upbeat Justin Timberlake track.

Tāreikura, a Māori Arts Grooming Academy, includes 10 girls aged between eight and 18. They meet twice a week to practice Māori performing arts.

Their latest video sees them dancing with poi to Justin Timberlake's 'Can't Stop The Feeling'.

It was posted on the group's Facebook page on Friday and has already racked up more than 360,000 views.

Five of the girls at Tāreikura can be seen performing across Rotorua, including at the Skyline Gondola and the museum.

Destination Rotorua told the New Zealand Herald that by mixing the city's Māori arts with the popular international song they could showcase the city's unique culture.

This is not the group's first brush with virality - last year they performed poi to the Beyoncé song 'Get Me Bodied', mixing the iconic Māori art with the artist's almost equally-iconic 'Single Ladies' dance.
