Prince found with painkillers - reports

There are reports a major drug agency has been called in by police investigating the death of pop star Prince.

CNN and NBC have reported police uncovered prescription painkillers in the 'Purple Rain' singer's possession after his sudden death in Minneapolis last week.

Authorities have now enlisted the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to help with their investigation. It is yet to be confirmed if those drugs were a contributing factor in his death.

Prince was found dead by staff at his Paisley Park estate on April 21.

In a press conference held by the Carver County Police on Friday, it was confirmed there was no sign of trauma found on the hitmaker's body, nor was there any suggestion of suicide.

The DEA will work to find out where the medication came from and what prescriptions Prince had for them.

The BBC says there was speculation Prince may have been addicted to painkiller Percocet, which was initially prescribed to him to help him with hip pain.

An autopsy was conducted on Prince's body last weekend before he was cremated and handed back to his family for a private ceremony.

The results of the autopsy are not expected to be known for several weeks.
