Redfoo defends 'Literally I Can't' after sexism claims

LMFAO star Redfoo has brushed off sexism allegations after his new single was labelled "the most offensive song of 2014".

The 'Sexy and I Know It' hitmaker has come under fire following the release of his track 'Literally, I Can't', which features lyrics suggesting men should tell women to "shut the f**k up" if they rebuff their advances.

A number of media outlets in Australia, where Redfoo is a judge on The X Factor Australia, have labelled the track "the most offensive song of 2014" and editors of entertainment website Thefix.ninemsn.com have issued a blanket ban on coverage of the star.

"The track features vocals by Redfoo and rapper Lil Jon (best known lately for his chart-topping track 'Turn Down For What') though in this song he spends much of the four minutes, literally shouting "SHUT THE F**K UP" at a group of young women," writes Clem Bastow for dailylife.com.au.

"Meanwhile Redfoo, who provides the verse, remains one of popular music's most unpleasant two-faced "personalities". He peddles his family-friendly "I'm just a goofy dude with a big 'fro" shtick on The X Factor Australia, then rolls out Party Anthems with all the nuance, when it comes to gender politics, of a Playboy cartoon from 1978.

"Lines from Redfoo like "Work it while I Instagram ya/Shh, don't talk about it, be about it/Work it, and twerk it, and maybe I'll Tweet about it" directly reference the "viral" nature of social media posts about (and in some cases, of) the victims of violent campus sexual assault like Steubenville and Houston cases."

The 'Literally, I Can't' video is available to view uncensored on YouTube.

However, Redfoo is adamant the song is not derogatory towards women.
