Thanks to an early Amazon listing, it's been known for a little while now that Rise of the Tomb Raider will have a Season Pass; but in officially announcing it today, Crystal Dynamics has shared new information about it, as well as some other aspects of the game.

The Season Pass will cover three major content releases: something called Endurance Mode, a new tomb called Baba Yaga: Temple of the Witch, and a horde mode called Cold Darkness Awakened. Additionally, there will be "a steady stream of outfits, weapons, and Expedition Cards beginning on Day 1 and continuing over four months."

Expedition Cards are a new addition to Rise of the Tomb Raider that will let players customise various aspects of the game while playing through game modes outside the singleplayer campaign.

Effects vary from cosmetic, humorous things like Big Head mode to increasing the challenge or giving the player special advantages. Card packs can be purchased with credits earned by playing the game or with real money, and they come in two varieties - single-use Common Cards, and Foil Cards, which can be used repeatedly and have a greater effect.

According to creative director Noah Hughes, there are about 300 Cards in the game at launch.

Hughes also outlined some of those additional game modes:

Rise of the Tomb Raider will be released on Xbox One and Xbox 360 on November 13, and the Season Pass will be available for pre-order from October 11. The pass is also included in the $159.95 Deluxe Edition.
