Richard O'Brien is adapting the sequel to cult film The Rocky Horror Picture Show for the London stage.

The British actor co-wrote the The Rocky Horror Show musical and its famous 1975 film version, and he also penned the flop follow-up movie Shock Treatment, which was widely panned by critics.

The 1981 musical comedy featured Rocky Horror couple Brad and Janet trapped inside a sinister game show.

O'Brien has now adapted the story for the stage and it will premiere at the King's Head Theatre in Islington in April.

The writer/actor says, "Shock Treatment has been waiting patiently in the wings for a stage premiere since the film was released in 1981... Just as Rocky began life upstairs at the Royal Court, it seems a perfect fit for Shock Treatment to start its stage life in the effervescent atmosphere of the astounding King's Head Theatre."

Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon played Brad and Janet in the first film, but did not reprise their roles for Shock Treatment.

The production will run from April 17 until May 9.
