Comedian Russell Brand was reprimanded by a US official at an 'Occupy' protest on Monday for clambering over a statue of revered President George Washington and calling for a revolution.

The Get Him to the Greek actor joined marchers at an Occupy Wall Street rally at New York's Federal Hall.

During the event, Brand encouraged the crowd to rise up against the US government before climbing the statue, but an official then stepped in to escort the Brit out of the area. He was then allowed to rejoin the rally.

It isn't the first time Brand has joined Occupy Wall Street protesters - in 2011 he gave a speech to campaigners who camped out in the financial district in protest at capitalism and global banking.
